What the heck is "plein air"? ....as opposed to fancy air? NOooooo. Encyclopedia Britannica says this, "in its strictest sense, the practice of painting landscape pictures out-of-door; more loosely, the achievement of an intense impression of the open air (French: plein air) in a landscape painting." Well, there you have it. Not fancy, or as mysterious as it sounds; and not pronounced "plain" as in Spain; but pleh-n, as in plenty. Oui!
SLV PAINTERS
The San Luis Valley Painting group is a loose association of painters affiliated with Coni's Painting Class. If you would like info about the group, or Classes, contact Coni Grant through her Website at www.CONIGRANT.com or click on the painting above to get directly to the website.
"When you go out to paint try to forget what object you have before you - a tree, a house, a field or whatever. Merely think, here is a little square of blue, here an oblong of pink, here a streak of yellow, and paint it just as it looks to you, the exact colour and shape, until it emerges as your own naive impression of the scene before you." - Claude Monet
"Sometimes you have to play a long time to be able to play like yourself." - Miles Davis
