Coni's Daily Paintings

These small studies were demos done in class as part of a discussion about Composition and the importance of employing a compositional idea to 'the view' in front of you. See past Blog Posts for May 20th, Class Notes:"Going in With a Plan"and May 27th, Class Notes:"The Big Idea".

These were painted over, probably several old paintings. I recycle old canvases by applying a coat of gesso so the (most recent) work has liveliness and a wonderful texture that could not be had on a fresh canvas.

A way to look at light on cylindrical shapes- and a good conversation starter.

The white enamel cup which finds it's way into so many of my setups. I can't resist it.

A study in glass; the flowers are superfluous.

This set up was a combination of items with a 4th of July theme. There is also a Canadian flag in that bunch and the hat is from the Air Force Academy Graduation in'06. If you look closely you can see remnants of a previous painting. I love working with a color under-painting but one of my favorite things to do is paint directly over an old painting.

Paint Out at LaVeta- again

Six painters, one spouse, and 2 dogs enjoyed a superb morning in LaVeta. Dave Roepke, Judith Greenwood, Jerri Everett and myself also took paintings to enter into the Look At Colorado Show that will open on July 14th at the Spanish Peaks Arts Council (SPACe) Gallery in LaVeta. My painting for the morning took in a view overlooking the tracks. Once the train pulled in from Alamosa, however the view was blocked. No worries- Richard Luckemeier, who was doing the same scene in watercolor, and I were both done. We enjoyed seeing the 'new' steam engine and star of the Alamosa-LaVeta Line huffing into the station.
