4 Weeks of Studio PAINTING in June

The Alamosa Family Rec Center is offering a short, 4 week painting class during the month of June. Classes start on Thursday,  June 3rd,  9 am to noon, and finish up on Thursday, June 24th. 

A big "Thank You" to the Alamosa Family Rec Center for being very conscientious about preparing the room for distancing and ventilation, and for creating protective protocols for classes that meet there. 

4 week class session starts on June 3rd, and goes until June 24th, 2021 

Thursday Mornings, starting June 3rd,  9am to noon.
8 Student maximum.   If you have been vaccinated - YAY - You will not need to wear a mask!   If you have not been vaccinated, we ask that you would wear a mask.
Fee is $50. to register for this 4 week session. Beginners are welcome.

This class is limited to 8 students - giving priority to students who are registered for the entire session.
Drop-ins  are $15 per class.

Also, beginners who have never painted in oil and would like to have supplies provided, can purchase a supply "kit" from me,  and have ALL supplies provided for the 4 week session. The "kit" is $40, paid to me at the first class meeting.

Welcome Spring and New Classes

Spring is almost here.  Hope is springing up and hopefully, we are seeing light at the end of the pandemic tunnel.   I get my second shot this Friday - yay - and am so grateful.  And I do hope you are all seriously making the vaccine a priority, for yourselves and for your loved ones.

Good news in my neck of the big woods!!   Painting Classes start again on Thursday, April 8th,  9 am to noon.   I have SO missed painting with everyone.

Happy 2018

Happy New Year, and a special Thanks to all of my students. You keep  me motivated and you keep me learning.  I am looking forward to the year ahead and heading into new territory with subject matter, focus and new inspiration. 

The class information here is mainly for students local to my area of Colorado, but if you are not in this area, I would still encourage you to think about starting your new year with a CLASS. Getting together with others in a learning environment can  jump start creativity for the whole year. Give your self the gift of inspiration. TAKE a class.                                                                                                         

My new classes start up right after the New Year: 

Tuesday Evenings start on January 2nd, from 6:30pm to 9:30 pm.  By popular demand we will focus on animals in the landscape: design, movement and compositional story telling. If wildlife is your interest don't miss this session.                                                     

Thursday Morning classes start on January 4th, 9am to Noon and our focus will be on birds and creating interesting and lively backgrounds in small settings.

All classes meet at the Alamosa Family Recreation Center in the art studio. Beginners are welcome and all classes address foundational skills of composition, color mixing and painting technique.

SLV Painters present the SMall Works Show

The San Luis Valley Painters is a group loosely associated with my Painting Classes. We try to hold a show locally every Spring and today we hung our SMall Works show in the Milagros Coffee House Gallery in downtown Alamosa.
Milagros is a place in the San Luis Valley, where roads, friends, art & book lovers, free thinkers, musicians and writers, all seem to meet. It is a stop for tourists, a setting for conversation and coffee drinkers, and for years the site of the only espresso maker in town.
A gathering spot, very much at the heart of Alamosa,
that supports causes that our little community hold dear.
It is a natural place to show and celebrate art in Alamosa.
18 Painters are represented with 107 pieces,
all in sizes less than 80 square inches and all very affordable.

It felt a bit like mayhem as work went up but response from the morning coffee crowd was very positive; 3 pieces sold before the work was all up.
BRAVO! to all the painters who participated - and Thank You!

Class Notes on the SQUARE Show

Last weekend the San Luis Valley Painters got together to celebrate the SQUARE SHOW, currently hanging in the Milagros "gallery", in Alamosa. All paintings done on the square format: landscape, abstract, portrait, and still life - in all mediums.
This started in painting class about a year ago when we spent over 3 months working compositions on the square. At first the paintings were all small, about 6"x 6" but over time painters took the square composition and really ran with it. The idea of a show highlighting some of our best work was the natural outcome.

We hung over 90 paintings (a record for the space) and last Sunday when painters, family, and art lovers got together, Gina Quintana's "Rooster" was voted Best In Show.


Milagros is a community sponsored coffee house that supports the arts, and a crossroads for almost everyone who lives in Alamosa, or passes through. I want to THANK the community for supporting us and also to tourists who have stopped in and decided to take a painting home with them. Five pieces have already SOLD. This show will hang until the end of April.
The San Luis Valley Painters group is a loose association of artists who are, or have, at some point in time painted with Coni's Adult Painting Class in Alamosa.
