WINNER- BEST of Artist Members at PleinAir Artists New Mexico Exhibiton, in Taos

"Afternoon in the Tall Grass", 12 x 16", WON Best of Artist Members, FIRST Place award, at the Plein Air Painters New Mexico Annual Juried Exhibition that opened in Taos last night; and SOLD.
This show will be on display thru Nov. 3rd at the Millicent Rogers Museum.
Fall is the BEST time in Taos and this is a big weekend with Taos Fall Arts Celebration going on and openings in many galleries.

Make a weekend of it and check out Peggy Immel's Solo Show celebrating Wilder Nightingale's 22 years in Taos. That show opens tonight, Saturday, Oct 5th,  5-7pm at Wilder Nightingale Fine Art on Kit Carson in Taos. Peggy took BEST in SHOW last night at the Plein Air Painters New Mexico Annual Juried Exhibition. CONGRATULATIONS Peg!
This show is  great chance to see more of her wonderful work.

On Sunday, Oct 6th,  1- 6pm,  Nita Harper and Patricia Rose Ford will be featured at the the Purple Sage Galeria in Old Town Albuquerque. Nita and Patricia are also members of the Plein Air Painters New Mexico.

PleinAir Artists New Mexico Juried Exhibiton - Millicent Rogers Museum in Taos

You are invited to enjoy the best of the Taos Fall season starting Tonight:
Friday, October 4th, 5- 7pm is the opening PARTY for the Annual Plein Air Painters New Mexico Juried Exhibition - at the Millicent Rogers Museum in Taos.
"Afternoon in the Tall Grass", 12 x 16", is my plein air painting juried into this year's show.
The Millicent is a venerable, and beautiful Taos venue and this show will highlight plein air work of painters from all over the country who come to New Mexico for inspiration.
So if you are on the lookout for great things to do this weekend in the Southwest- this is an ART must see.

Last Fall the Plein Air Painters of New Mexico, a plein air club of which I am a member, put out a call for entries in an online painting contest.  These are great opportunities to show off current work- especially among members and we all get to vote for our favorite. The contest title was "Color Passages"; appropriate for Autumn paintings and I had just returned from the Westcliffe Plein Air event with a painting that won a prize there- and I posted it here at that time.
I think Fall brings out the best in most painters and it was no surprise to see a lot of good work posted by the membership which includes painters from all over the country. Usually, I post a vote and forget about it, so I was very gratified when my piece ended up in a tie for 1st Place - with Michael Chesley Johnson.  Well, I admire Michael very much; we have never met but I read his blog, his books, follow his stuff and someday hope to catch up with him at a PAPNM paint out. All that to say - I was  ASTONISHED when a few days later I was informed that my piece had won the contest. This was about December and it all went to the back burner of my mind until the day before Christmas when my PRIZE arrived in the mail. YIPPEE - YIPPEE - YIPPEE!!
Edgar Payne's 'The Scenic Journey' - the definitive book (coffee table size of course) on his life and life's work.  This was the best present and the book you want with you when it is 30 below outside and you can't "go out" to paint.

SQUARE Show Sale

"Ladies in Painting"- my 7"x 7" homage to PAPNM (Plein Air Painters of New Mexico) was part of the SQUARE Show, currently hanging at the Milagros Coffee House Gallery in Alamosa. This piece sold last week, which I am happy about, but the good folks at Milagros could not tell WHO bought it. If by chance, it was purchased by a blog reader,
I would so like to know who you are.

The Square Show is a representation of work from the SLV Painting group and so far we have sold almost 10 pieces, possibly more since the ARTwalk. I am very happy to have sold 2 myself.

Plein Air Painters of New Mexico Juried Exhibition in Taos

Need a good excuse to visit Taos?
Take in the party at the prestigious Millicent Rogers Museum for the PAPNM (Plein Air Painters of New Mexico) Annual Juried Exhibition, The Spirit of Place, which opens with a reception for the artists, Saturday evening, October 9, at 5 pm.
I was pleased and excited to have 2 paintings selected for this show, as did Sue McCullough, and David Montgomery - the three us us representing the Colorado San Luis Valley.
Jana Van Wyk, a fellow member of the High Desert Painters also had work juried into the exhibition.
This show will coincide with the peak of the Taos art season and highlight the best plein air work from its membership.
Saturday evening's reception will be punctuated by an awards ceremony and on Sunday, October 10, Bill Gallen, PAPNM Signature Member will do a painting demonstration from 2-4pm at the Museum and free with Museum admission.
Monday, October 11, at 11 am, Nancy Silvia, PAPNM VP and Signature Member will speak on the subject of Plein Air Painting at the Museum and free with Museum admission.

Daily Painter Goes On the Road

Well, this week flew by and tho' there were paintings there wasn't even time to post them all- let alone talk about them. I've had wet paintings all over the kitchen waiting to got to the studio and a 4'x5' studio piece with only the under painting done. It is right in the studio window and today as I drove away I couldn't help feeling a little like I had left it there with no clothes on- only underwear. I hate to leave work like that but the week was all about getting ready for the Plein Air New Mexico Paintout and Exhibition. On Saturday morning I head for Santa Fe for a week of painting in northern New Mexico that will culminate in a show at the Mark Zoeller Gallery on Canyon Rd. in Santa Fe. There are 60 plein air painters involved and, of course it is a competition. The opening reception is Friday night, Aug. 3rd, beginning at 5pm and the show will be there for a week.
