GREAT SAND DUNES Featured at Denver International Airport
The Great Sand Dunes National Park, OUR Sand Dunes, are being featured this fall, in an Exhibition at DIA.
Sue McCullough, Patrick Myers, Dave Montgomery and myself were 4 of several regional artists invited to be juried for this show that will feature art inspired by the Great Sand Dunes, from September 12 through January of 2010.
These are the 6 paintings that I have entered, including the one in the following post. From the top: Zapata View, 9"x 12", plein air,
Valley View, 6"x 8',
Medano Creek, 11"x 14", plein air,
Valley Morning, 12"x 16' plein air,
Zapata Woods, 9"x 12' plein air.
The Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve is one of the treasures of Colorado and for painters here, it is always inspiring and fascinating. All of my pieces were painted, either in the Park itself or on adjacent properties and tho' they hint at the dunes, I have never painted the dune field itself. So I took it up as an assignment for this show and using a photo I shot last Spring - painted the 20"x 16" piece shown below in the next post. Click on any of the photos to see them larger.

Here it is. Still wet and not even signed but I have had it in the back window of my car for 2 days so it will dry.
